Project Context and Challenges

Who is the Target User?

The target users are young digital natives raised on TikTok, YouTube, and livestreams – fully immersed in short-form content and high-adrenaline experiences.
They’re emotional, bold, and always looking for excitement, real-time interaction, and a sense of influence over what happens on screen.
They value speed, strong visual impact, and having full control over their live experience.

Project Goal

The goal of the project was to create a visually intense, emotionally charged mobile betting experience that feels as real and unpredictable as the live challenges it enables.
The app needed to combine fast user flow, clear risk mechanics, and addictive engagement, while keeping the experience intuitive and mobile-first.
All of this had to be executed within the boundaries of iOS Human Interface Guidelines for smooth native behavior.

Research & UX Analysis

The design process began with an in-depth analysis of the market, competitors, and UX trends in the fields of live betting, streaming, and social interaction. The goal was to identify best practices and uncover areas where FreakBets could offer a truly unique experience.

Market and Competitor Analysis

We examined applications from three key categories:
• Online betting platforms (Betclic, STS, Fortuna)
• Live interaction apps (TikTok LIVE, Fame MMA)

We focused on key aspects such as: real-time betting, community engagement, countdown mechanics, microinteractions, and AI-powered personalization and recommendations.

Identification of Gaps and Issues

Our research revealed recurring gaps in existing solutions:
• No in-app AI assistant that actively supports the user
• Limited personalization and lack of dynamic recommendations
• No product that seamlessly combines betting, live streaming, and viewer influence

Foundation for Further Project Stages

Based on this analysis, we established the core direction for FreakBets:
• ultra-fast, intuitive mobile-first flow,
• full integration of betting, streaming, and real-time emotional engagement,
• an intelligent, context-aware AI assistant that supports user decisions in the moment.

Paper Prototyping

I created a series of paper sketches to quickly test the core user flow and key interaction moments.
The focus was on betting flow, countdowns, live streaming, and AI integration.
This prototype helped validate whether users intuitively understand the app’s logic before moving into UI design.

Guerrilla Testing – Quick Usability Insights

To ensure the best user experience, I conducted quick usability tests with 3–5 target users.
The goal was to validate the intuitiveness of the app’s core flow, identify UX pain points, and test user response under time pressure.
Based on observations, I introduced key improvements to streamline navigation, boost clarity, and enhance engagement.

Key Findings & Improvements

Betting flow was too complex

Users expected a faster process — ideally 2–3 quick steps from decision to confirmation, without unnecessary screens or friction.

Time-based cues were too subtle

Testers often missed countdown moments. I improved the visual emphasis on timers with motion effects and animated CTA states.

Viewer vs participant roles were unclear

Some users were unsure whether they could join or only watch. I introduced clearer labels and differentiated screens based on user role.

AI assistant wasn’t noticeable enough

The assistant’s presence was not obvious. I redesigned its appearance to be contextual, animated, and action-oriented.

UI Design

A modern, dynamic, and cohesive interface was designed to support intuitive navigation, emotional engagement, and full compliance with iOS guidelines.
The visual style is inspired by gaming aesthetics, using a dark theme, vibrant typography, and UI elements that emphasize energy and real-time interaction.dability.

Key Design Insights

Color Palette Optimization

A consistent set of neon pink shades was used to build a bold and energetic look:

  • Base #FF2C86 – main CTA color for buttons, actions, and key interactions

  • Light / Lighter – for hover states, highlights, and secondary info areas

  • Darkest #8D1B58 – for active states, dark CTA variants, and high-contrast UI elements

  • Lightest #FFE6F1 – subtle backgrounds, glows, and microinteractions

The palette reinforces emotional intensity and speed, while maintaining contrast and clarity on dark backgrounds.

Typography Aligned with App Personality

The typeface Epilogue was selected for its modern, geometric feel and excellent readability.
Text styles were structured to ensure a clear visual hierarchy across all screen sizes, making it easy for users to focus and navigate under time pressure.

Through iterative design and usability testing, I focused on simplifying key interactions and boosting emotional engagement. Final refinements were centered on increasing speed, improving clarity of key moments, and using AI to personalize the betting experience.nt..

Key Findings & Improvements

AI Setup in Onboarding & Alerts

Instead of a standard onboarding flow, users were introduced to popup settings powered by AI — including betting tips, category recommendations, and profile personalization. This provided immediate value and a sense of tailored experience from the very beginning.

Timer Added to the Checkout Process

To emphasize the fast-paced nature of the platform and motivate quick action, a countdown timer was introduced on the checkout screen. It shows how much time is left before the challenge starts, increasing urgency and helping users commit to bets without delay.

Streamlined Push Notification System

Based on user feedback, the notification system was simplified and restructured into intuitive toggles. New categories such as “AI betting tips”, “Freak alerts”, and “Confirmed bets” were added to give users full control over what matters most to them.
